Paddling Canada
In the summer of 06 myself, Fin and Pete undertook our biggest challenge to date. Affectionately known as the ‘Lotus/Nahanni’ it was hosted by Canada’s Northwest Territories and is blurbed in my film of the expedition as:
“30 days, 700km of river, 3000 feet of vertical rock, a hell of a suffering but an unforgettable experience.”
Even if I do say so myself the movie is ok and it can be viewed at http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-3431874435564473086
Back in Squamish BC in the late summer of 06, myself, Kurt and Ted went for a climbing rest day paddle on a low water class II creek in the nearby mountains. I was feeling proper rusty but the paddle went fine. Ok ladies and gentlemen take a seat, hold onto your hats cause the following is utterly amazing and if you are a paddler it will blow your mind. As we come round the final corner and enter our takeout eddy we are met by a flotilla of lilos, rafted together and occupied by 12 bikini clad women. I wondered if I had drowned on the river and was now being met by angels but it soon transpired not. It was in fact a girls weekend away from Vancouver and they camping above our takeout eddy. The girls invited us in for a beer and we spent a couple of hours chillin and chatting in the mountain sun. Priceless! It sure ain’t the Orchy in January.
